AED builds on the skills learned in CPR and first aid courses,
and provides knowledge of how the heart works and what goes wrong
when defibrillation is required. Participants learn when and how to
operate an automated external defibrillator including AED
maintenance, data management, and reporting protocols required
following an incident.
Prerequisite: Lifesaving Society CPR-A or
higher certification.
Instruction & certification: Current
Lifesaving Instructors or First Aid Instructors may teach and
certify AED candidates. The Lifesaving Society deems its
certifications to be "current" for 24 months from the certification
date.
